Today I was running Maureen Klause’s boat Trade In for a canyon trip in search of marlin. I had 80 baits rigged and ready and we were going to pull a dredge for the first time from her boat, so we had a few new things going on. Right out of the inlet we saw at least 15 shooting stars, and with the Moon so close to New, the stars were so bright even with the glow from Atlantic City looming over us as 2 am. After a few miles we started to smell fuel, and the smell got worse very quickly. We opened all the hatches and we had fuel in the bilge so we immediately turned the boat around and headed back in. We turned off all electronics and diluted the fuel as much as possible. We made it back in safe, and the boat is already out of the water to get fixed, but a leaky fuel tank was definitely the last thing we expected today. Bummer!
