Well, the billfish bite went off yesterday, no real rhyme or reason, and today we had all of the same conditions and the bite was slow. We picked at some Mahi early and then had a déjà vu moment with a blue all over our right dredge again, he wouldn’t switch for anything and finally went to the right long chugger head ballyhoo combo. He are and dropped then are again. We had him on and after a jump we got nothing but the hook back. You’ve gotta be kidding me!
Anyway, we shrugged that off and caught a few single dolphin then hooked into a sailfish. Jeff ended up getting that one for his first sail! With the slow bite we ended up switching to bottom fishing and caught a few yellowtail, but overall that was slow too. Not sure what to expect at this point, still waiting for that epic billfish bite here in Cat Island.
