We made it to Cat Island late last night on the Over Under after stopping at Staniel for a little to good around with the pigs. Staniel is definitely a beautiful place and I really have enjoyed being there a little the past two years, BUT when we pulled into Cat Island last night, it felt like home. The people are so nice and the fishing is great! We did a little boat work today and hope to slip out for a shake down fishing trip tomorrow, so hopefully the fish are bitin!!! Happy to be at my home away from home!!

The day is here. We are about to pull out of Fort Lauderdale and make our crossing to the Bahamas. I spent the last week on the Over Under getting her ready for the Spring season in the islands and we should be set. This coming week we will be ourselves setup and ready for 10 weeks of fishing hard. As long as the ol’ girl is good to us and continues to run like a clock like she has in the past, it should be a great time. Hopefully the fish cooperate too! Reports to come soon.
After a fun winter of fishing various Caribbean locations, the time has come for me to head back to the Bahamas on the 54 Bertram Over Under again with Captain Joe Trainor. I absolutely love going to the Bahamas fishing every Spring. The billfishing is great, and there are so many mahi mahi to catch that is makes everyday full of action and plenty of fun. We usually catch a few mahi over 50 pounds each year.
Last year we started March off in San Salvador fishing for wahoo and it was fantastic fishing getting 5-10 bites a day all on big wahoo. Our biggest was 107 pounds. This year looks like we will have the same start with a liveaboard trip in the SanSal area and hopefully the wahoo action will be just as good. After April 1st, we switch to dredge fishing for billfish out of Hawk’s Nest Marina in Cat Island. In April we get shots at white marlin and sailfish along with an occasional blue marlin. In May, we still see some sailfish and a good amount of whites as the blue marlin start to fill in more as the month goes on. The mahi action stays HOT the whole time we are there.
I will be spending the next week in FL prepping the OverUnder for the season and we plan to make our crossing later in the week. Hopefully I will have plenty of great reports to come!!
Here is the video from our Overnighter fishing the infamous Pickle Bank off of Grand Cayman in the Caribbean. Be sure to watch in HD.
only have a few minutes but yesterday we caught a wahoo and 8 Mahi in a morning 5 hour trip to the SW corner of the island and also lost a blue marlin, then today we plug fished in the same area for blue marlin and released one about 250 pounds and caught a dolphin. Great way to cap off the trip.
