We had a hard WSW wind today which history has shown shuts down the billfishing. We gave it a shot in the morning and there was t much to it. As we made our way out to Columbis Point we saw the tuna birds working on the surface and we got hooked into a nice yellowfin tuna. Bruce was working him in smoothly but of course the whitetip Sharks were there waiting and ate the whole tuna.
We switched gears and targeted tunas with 3 heavy rods for the rest of the day and managed to catch 12 smaller blackfin tuna and 5 Mahi. We also had about two dozen tunas eaten so we’re were racing the Whitetips all day long. It definitely made for some excitement and we will be having fresh tuna for dinner tonight!!!
