Today we had our sights set on tuna, bigeyes in particular. Jody has never caught one so I wanted to get him on one since signs seemed right that they were around. We ran out to the Wilnington early to get into the eddy that was pushing blue 71 degree water into the canyon and got on the troll at grey light. Right away we had an explosion behind the long rigger, but the fish missed completely. I was marking bait and we made a few more passes and wham! Yellowfin on. Justin got the 50 pounder to the boat easily. We got back on the troll and found a small pod of pilot whales doing their thing and I marked the tunas. After a few passes, Got Em On! Jody got strapped in and was in for a battle. This fish had no intentions of giving us a shot at her. After 6 hours and 40 minutes we finally got color. It was obvious it was a nice bigeye. With that, the line parted. What a heartbreaker!
