We are entered to fish the shark tournament this weekend on Saltitude and today was day one. With the 10-15 knot SE and fairly calm seas we made our way out to fish the Elephant Trunk area in 30 fathoms. We got setup on a nice dropoff in 66 degree green water and got on our first drift which was about half a knot. We got a nice crash from a mako on the short bait but he must of been wrapped up and he came off. Shortly after we hooked into another mako that was about 125lbs and we released it. After two hours on this drift I decided to pick up and make a short 2 mile move.
It didn’t take long to hook into another mako and get a clean releas one it. We stick with this drift throughout the day and ended our day 5/7 on makos (all smaller fish), 1 blue shake and one dusky. Very fun day of fishing but no big ones today for us.
