What a day today was. Again, similar conditions and water temperatures. The bite was slow and steady but that made it fun all day long. The boys have been doing well in the pit this trip. We caught a white marlin off the bat early and then missed another not long after. It went quiet for a bit then WHAM! Blue marlin piles on the right flat and started jumping all over and spit the hook in the turn. 10 seconds later a different and smaller blue piles on the left long crystal Fish Downsea party hat and game on! Rob was on this one and got a clean release! One Sailfish away from a slam! After an hour he got exactly that! Personal slam!
We went on to rack up some more releases and ended the day 2/3 on blues, 1/2 on whites, and 3/6 on Sailfish and also raised two more. Such a fun day here in Grenada on the Exile!
We started in close today to looks around and see what else we could find. The day started slow as we went 1/2 on Sailfish. By late morning we made our way to the south outside 1000 fathoms and found some birds working that we started to pick Sailfish off of. We ended up raising 10 sails and going 5/8 on Sailfish releases by 1:00. We even picked up a nice 80# yellowfin tuna to add to the mix! Fun 3/4 day of fishing on Exile!
Today we went out to target Billfish and were ready for Tunas if they decided to show themselves. We had a 15 knot wind out of the NE and a SSW current at about .6 knots and pretty blue 80 degree water. We started well offshore today and made our way Downsea. We managed to get 3 bites in the morning catching 2/3 and then another 3 later in the afternoon releasing 1. Not a bad way to start off and getting everything back in rhythm.
We spent the past week getting the 45′ Hatteras Exile up and going for some time in Grenada. We moved the boat today to Grenada from Trinidad and had smooth seas overall for most of the trip. We were able to put lines in for about and hour and a half and picked up 3 wahoo real quick for some good eats for the week and continued on. Feels good to be back in Grenada! Can’t wait for day 1!
I arrived in Trinidad on 1/12 and have been getting everything together and ready to go on Exile since then. Everything is coming together and hoping to be on our way to Grenada by this coming Friday.
We were able to slip out for a 4 hour sea trial here in Trinidad to make sure all systems were GO. We trolled a bit for wahoo (half ass I may add) just to get the riggers set perfectly and make sure everything was good there. Then we hopped around the Bocas for a bit to a few tarpon spots. Matthew kept me in position to throw a plastic on a jig head for tarpon and game on! I got to catch my first nice tarpon. Very fun fight and a great jump.
More work to do this week getting the boat ready. Hopefully the next few days go as well as the first few.
