We finally got a break from the wind and went looking for white marlin and mahi. We started the early grey light hours trying for a tuna but the signs didn’t show that they were there so we quickly switched gears. All. morning we had plenty of action with small dolphin, but were struggling to get a marlin bite until 1100 we finally started to get some shots. The fish were coming in and out of the spread very brown and not aggressive at all. Kind of weird, but they were there and we picked away at 8 bites, one of which was a triple header, and managed to raise 11 fish. We went on to release 3 white marlin in the mix and boxed enough mahi for a couple of dinners. Fun day on the water! Hoping to get another crack at it before this storm rolls up the coast.
Well it’s been quite a week with overall slower fishing. We managed to get a little action, but unfortunately nothing special for the board.
Day 1 was extremely slow for us. 1/2 on white marlin and some small mahi.
Day 2 we ran south and pounded it out which paid off catching 1 blue marlin and 3 white marlin, one of which we took to the scales, but it only weighed 62 pounds.
Day 3 was another tough day as we went 2/3 on white marlin and raised one other along with some small mahi in the mix.
That’s all she wrote.
Today we ran out on the Wish You Were Here. Beautiful flat calm weather. We got to the 100 fathom line and there they were, yellowfins were all over the surface in the 40-60 pound range. We got a few bites but only held onto 1. Shortly after we boxed a mahi and went 1/2 on white marlin then it shut down.
We pushed off to prettier water on a nice rip and went 3/6 there mid day picking away at white marlin releases until the rip and bait disappeared. Then we shoved into the canyon where we boxed a nice 55# yellowfin tuna and ended the day on a white marlin release. Great day of fishing!
Day 1 for us started off raising a double header white marlin. We got a bite out of 1 and the other faded away. We did get the release on that fish and then released another shortly after. Then we missed one on the right long. We were fishing 100 fathoms and there were tons of flying fish, beautiful blue water, but not much else to it.
We picked up and ran inside and managed to get one more marlin bite that didn’t come tight so we ended our day 2/4. 2 more to go here!
Well, we ended our day 6/9 releasing 6 white marlin. A few mahi in the mix. Great day pre fishing for the White Marlin Open. I have to keep the location semi hush hush, but some other boats did even better. Felt fortunate tho overall to have caught what we did! Fun day for sure. Hope to keep the good vibes rolling through the White Marlin Open!
