I fished again on the 50 Bertram “Change Order” and there were plenty of birds all around on top of schools and schools of skipjack tunas. We picked away all morning at sailfish and had an aggressive blue marlin on the Fish Downsea Flying Fish Chain again. This time we got the switch and had the fish on, but pulled the hook early on. Having some bad luck with these blues this season – ouch. Anyway, we ended up getting into a little action with mahi and had another sailfish bite around the massive whales that popped up later in the day which were pretty impressive to see. Really wild stuff throughout the day today. We ended 3/5 on sailfish and 0/1 on blue marlin.

I fished again on Change Order and we managed to raise 5 sailfish, getting 3 bites and releasing 2. We also had a blue marlin on the Fish Downsea Flying Fish chain but it was shy on the pitch bait and never made the switch. Ouch. All of our bites were in the afternoon. Pretty day on the water as the weather this week has been beautiful with light winds.
We were ready to go in a big way today on “Change Order” after the crazy and epic action from yesterday. We found the bait and scattered birds early bit no fish. Worked it for awhile, then went searching. Raised a sailfish to the teaser that never ate. Finally we got a flat line bite and came tight on a sailfish only to pull the hook – ouch. That was all she wrote today. We went in early to refuel and fix a few issues. Hopefully we find that action tomorrow, maybe the fish just took the day off with full bellies today. Haha
Well the New Moon last month produced and the New Moon today certainly followed suit. I went along on the 50′ Bertram “Change Order”. The day started slow with only a double header of sailfish and we released 1 out of the 2 then it was quiet til noon. We spotted the sailfish birds and setting back out we got picked up right away! The action was nonstop bites for about three hours on every other pass. We had some tough luck on quite a few pulling hooks and had chaos with so many bites, haha. Pure fun, lots of laughs and san cochos, haha. Ended the day 7/24 on sailfish.
Today we started off finding birds and porpoise about 6 miles out and gave it a try for tunas for 45 minutes but we didn’t see what we wanted to see. So with that we ran off another 8 miles and set out. It took too 10 to get our first bite, sailfish on the left teaser, perfect switch then weed piled on the switch bait. Sandy shook it off, the sail found the bait again and then weed again and the sail faded. Ahhhhh. Hate that but ok.
We ended up getting a sail off the left long and hour later and got a clean release. After that it was quiet. Not normal for here. Around 1 we found. Some birds and porpoise again and tried to work them for awhile before getting a double header Mahi and Tuna! We boated the 30# bull and then a half hour later got the 130# class yellowfin on deck! SCORE! Love those big tunas!
We pressed on and at the end of the day found some floating debris we pulled couple Mahi off of to round out a solid day of fishing here in Grenada!
Well the last two days have been interesting, 1 weehoo then a snapped outrigger off the bat Friday which made us call that day a loss before we could even really get going. I lucked out getting what was needed to repair the outrigger which was pure luck having the right friends with random pieces and we sleeved the outrigger back together with plenty of cutting and grinding and replaced all the cables that went bad since I had the spares.
We fished yesterday (Saturday) and had a great flurry of sailfish bites in the morning but unfortunately went 1/7. First tries at hooking them didn’t go so well for the guys. Wish we had another day to teach more. Tried for wahoo in the afternoon but turbid green water moved into the zone making that a no go. Tough couple of days.
Today we had a lot of rain fronts with gusty winds blowing through. It made fishing a bit difficult but we still managed to go 3/5 on sailfish today. Had one that was LIT UP. Really wild looking fish. Did manage to get all first sailfish today so perfect!
