Catching Up

I’ve been at it fairly nonstop and haven’t had a chance to post here lately, or anywhere for that matter. The fishing overall has been pretty good for both marlin and tuna, and now the small mahi have shown up to add to the mix. It has been hit and miss fishing, but we have been able to put our time in on overnighters lately giving us some time to find the fish. Finally have two days off here to get caught back up then back at it on Friday.

7/19 Back at it

We are finally back at it on the 61 Viking Wish You Were Here and have the canyon a try despite the slower fishing reports. We managed to go 1:1 on whites and 0:1 on blue marlin while dealing with zero visibility due to the fog all day. We deep dropped a couple drops to catch some tilefish for dinner.

7/15 Badger

I ran the 55’ Viking Badger today. We setup just above the Poormans and raised a double header white marlin early on missing one and pulling the hook on another. Then we got one on and got a clean release. Picked up a nice 30# bull dolphin and then it got quiet.

We pushed down into the Poormans and hot on the teaser was a nice 300# blue marlin that the boys switched perfectly and game on. Lots of jumps and an hour and 20 minutes later we got the release!

I pushed inshore a bit and the tunas were up on top. It took awhile to get a good pass but we finally did get covered up and boated 4 yellowfins to end the day.

July 4 Blue Marlin Hunting

Like many others we went Blue Marlin Hunting for July 4th, but we didn’t enter the World Cup, just the Mid Atlantic Cup on Saltitude. We started in the deep of the Wilmington where there were some whales and lots of bait, but no bites. We made our way to the corner of the Baltimore Canyon and found scattered weed and a 2 degree temp break and released a white Marlin there that switched to the blue and white Party Skirt. That was pretty much it for us. Not one blue caught in the Mid Atlantic unfortunately. Try again next year.

Epic Tuna Week

Amazing tuna fishing for us this week. Plenty of yellowfin tuna on Tuesday with some smaller bluefin in the mix during a quick trip on the 27’ Contender “Trade In”. Wednesday a limit of yellowfins on the “Low Profile” and then 9 yellowfins on Thursday battling in the crowd.
